Category: Europe/Diaspora

Europe/Diaspora follows the thread stretched between two inseparable scenes: a Europe that, after the Shoah, saw itself as a space for the protection of minorities, and a Jewish diaspora that persists, transforms, leaves, returns, and hesitates. This section explores how the crisis of the European project—the rise of nationalism, crisis of liberalism and social democracy, resurgence of antisemitism, democratic fragility—is reflected in the fate of Jews on the continent. It also looks at the European diaspora as a way of life and a political voice in its own right: a unique way of thinking about exile, citizenship, Israel, justice, and relations with other minorities. Between Europe and the diaspora, this diptych takes seriously the circulations, tensions, and disconnections: what Europe does to Jewish life, and what Jewish life in the diaspora says, in return, about the real state of Europe.
