Mordechai Kremnitzer

Mordechai Kremnitzer (Fürth, Germany, 1948) is Professor Emeritus of Law at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where he served as Dean of the Faculty of Law from 1990 to 1993. He served in the Israel Defense Forces from 1970 to 1977, notably as Deputy Military Prosecutor and Military Judge. A Senior Fellow at the Israel Democracy Institute (IDI), where he served as Vice President for Research, he also headed the Israeli Press Council. His work focuses on criminal law, constitutional law, human rights, and the relationship between democracy and national security. He co-authored a proposal to overhaul the Israeli Penal Code, which was adopted by the Knesset. His publications cover judicial activism, administrative detention, targeted killings, and authoritarian trends in democracies in decline. In 2003, he received the Zeltner Prize for Legal Research.
